Not kidding about SLIM landing on its head... here is picture! This was taken by LEV-2 (SORA-Q) that adorbs transformer robot carried by SLIM that looks like a ball and then springs open to roll wild across the lunar surface and take photos as the mood takes it.

Clearly, it found this pretty funny and it autonomously selected this shot to send back to Earth.

There's a press release here that HQ can't be bothered to post the English.

It also goes right along with me even when I'm doing something really stupid.

Today, for example, I mistyped a comparison as `!a === b` instead of the proper way, `a !== b`.

Copilot happily helped me repeat that mistake as many times as I wanted to, before I eventually discovered the error.

(Technically, `!a === b` is valid code, so Copilot apparently just assumed that's what I wanted, even though it made no sense in the context of what I was doing. Even TypeScript didn't help with that one.)

So I've been using GitHub Copilot full-time (work and play) for a few weeks now.

I notice it either comes up with the perfect thing amazingly quickly, or spits out something so blatantly wrong a junior in their first week would laugh at it. There's no in-between; everything it suggests is either amazing or terrible.

The tricky thing is: it's not always apparent at a glance which is which.

My best theory so far: "on" only works with horizontal things because our brains unconsciously perceive anything visual as having gravity.

The items can be perceived as resting on a horizonal row, but not on a vertical column, where they would fall, and so our brains instead perceive the column as holding the items.

Why do we always say an item in a grid/table/spreadsheet is *IN* a column, but *ON* a row?

❌ "Look on the first column"

The only reason I can recommend this book is as a historical study of how wealthy Europeans thought about the world in late XIX century: being the only enlightened people compared to the savage rubble like Indians, Chinese, Americans, etc.

It was very different from the cartoon I watched when I was a kid :-) Gone is the ingenious Mr. Fogg using whatever is at hand in clever ways. In the book he bribes his way through and is being saved by other people. The main idea is, to win a terminally dumb wager, you need lot of money and a lot of luck. But surprisingly, the story isn't satiric in the slightest, he's a damn hero :-).

I like TypeScript, but I maintain that beyond a certain point, it makes you *feel* more productive than it actually *makes* you.

It *feels* like an amazing achievement when you finally, satisfyingly, invoke the proper incantation to banish those cursed squigglies in your editor...

...but you might have just spent hours "improving" the code, when what actually ships and runs is 0% different that it was before.

It's possible the only thing you meaningfully changed was your own feelings.

Hey Friends! one more shot from my weekend's #photo #adventure! It was midday and the stream was not very calm, lots of ripples .. it didn't really please me until I saw how it was meandering from right to left and back.

I grabbed my ND filter and tried a couple of long exposures so that the "harsh" ripples turned into an interesting pattern.

A little bit of processing later, I was really positively surprised!
Enjoy 😉
