What's happening here? Did all the open web tech bros take the same class in gaslighting?

In Alabama, a roofing company illegally hired a 15-year-old.

All per US Department of Labor proceedings — fining the company $117,175.

It should be 10 times that.

THIS is why we need child labor laws.

So, we as regular people who write and make content, have to suck it up when our work is scraped, analyzed, and synthesized.

But somehow, magically, the companies that provide our blogging platforms have enough leverage to sell our work to OpenAI.

Oh, the gaslighting just around the corner will be fun.

I know #DataPortability seems like a win for the consumer. And it can be, so long as the cloud computing oligopoly aren't the ones writing the spec. But they are. They have.

Google and Meta need the "open web" so that AWS customers can port themselves over to their respective future offerings.

Once the power shifts, #Google and #Meta will change the rules again. This story is as old as time.

Stop entering into good faith negotiations with the scorpion.

Wake me up when Meta and Google advocate for our ability to port purchased media from one platform to the next.

Until then, #DataPortability is a self-serving initiative for 2 of the Big Four cloud computing behemoths. It's a red herring that helps loosen Amazon's grip on the cloud market.

Right now, #Amazon maintains its dominance by making it hard and expensive to use competing cloud services.

#Google's fate is wrapped in its ability to dominate the cloud. #Meta has its own interests.

What I’m listening to today: "Diana Ross - Fool For Your Love."

It’s Diana Ross. Lead singer of The Supremes, a Motown band that broke through to the mainstream and paved the way for countless other Black musicians to do the same. Extraordinarily successful solo artist, for decades. An absolute icon.

Guessing you can name several songs of hers, from either or both of her solo career or her time in The Supremes, but you’ve probably never heard her like this before. This is "Fool For Your Love," off her 1982 "Silk Electric" album. This is a very eclectic album, much more than you might expect, and is a great showcase of her range. It touches on pop-R&B, as you might expect, but also doo-wop ("So Close"), ambient/experimental ("Turn Me Over," the last song on the A-side, which prompts the listener to flip the record), disco ("Who"), reggae ("I Am Me"), and this song, which is hard rock bordering on heavy metal. It’s so unexpected, and it rocks super hard.
