The slow and steady alignment of Mark Zuckerberg's vision of the Metaverse, and discourse around the future of the Fediverse, is in fact fascinating.

I mean, it's disturbing but interesting how little the similarities are discussed. It's like the fediverse has become a metaverse beta testing playground for both tech and hearts and minds.

Like, how do we think this ends?

I am very excited about this. You can use the gaze and pinch style interactions of visionOS in WebXR! This is a very natural feeling and precise way to interact with VR either up-close or at a distance whilst also being privacy preserving.

If you don't have a Vision Pro then you can test it on your sites in the Simulator via Xcode on MacOS.

Now if you're asking me about the *community*? The jury is still out. Have found some friendly folks. But since most relays are just wide open, there are also some things that I'd rather not be associated with.

This might get better as I grow a social network w/ more follows there, and limit my feed to that. But when bootstrapping a network in a new system, reading the "new" and "trending" posts is a good(?) way to find folks to follow.

I started my #FeoBlog project (https://github.com/nfnitloop/feoblog/#feoblog) years ago because I saw Mastodon gaining popularity and thought that a distributed system would be better than a federated one.

I also later found several problems with Mastodon's (ab?)use of ActivityPub (https://github.com/NfNitLoop/feoblog/issues/42).

#Nostr is much more like what I had in mind for FeoBlog, so I of course prefer its model. And I've found a lot to like about its protocol.

Anyone got ethical privacy respecting zoom/webex alternatives, outside jitsi.meet and jami?

I pay for Meet.Coop access, but it's North American data center has been down for 32 hours with no status message in it's forum. It honestly failed me pretty hard in an embarrassing way tonight.

I get regularly asked why im not using Discord by my players, and it's starting to feel like I should throw in the towel.

It is a weirdly bitter comfort, me and my sister can't webcam this week; while I spin my tires on this.

Solutions need to work in macOS linux and windows.

Boosts welcome.

“My Cat is Such a Weirdo” by Tamako Tamagoyama

It’s a #Manga about #Cats. You already know if you want to read it.

Despite the title, it’s about Tamagoyama’s TWO cats, Ton-chan and Shino-san. Both are rescues; Ton-chan (full name Tongari) was adopted from a shelter and Shino-san (Shinonome) from a private cat rescue. (There are also some anecdotes about Tamagoyama’s parents’ cats.) The stories are mostly about the amusing behaviors and contrasting personalities of the duo.

This originated as a webcomic and it’s in full color. It’s mostly four panel, although it adjusts its format to fit the stories. A fun touch is that photos of the actual cats are frequently included as bonus panels, often of them doing the very thing the story is about.

Ongoing (I think) with three volumes in English (Seven Seas.)

@jacob @glyph What I have loved about this is the discovery that absolutely everyone feels this way about the networking layer right below them. The kernel networking folks are like "look, I hand it off to the NIC driver and then some magic happens, I dunno”. The NIC driver folks are all “there's just some bitbanging and then I flip an MSR and then this whole other computer in the computer does a thing". The NIC folks all go "look the IC has a data sheet, I just prod it and hope”.
