Joyce Vance:

This bit with Oklahoma Senator Mullin is very cringe. He winks at allegations of #Hegseth sexual abuse, saying he too was not in prison because "my wife loved me too" & that his "lord and savior forgave me." Then he asks Hegseth to say something nice about his wife & prompts him to remember the kids.

I meant it as a satire of some description, which I can't quite put into words.

So, people are wondering why this Free Our Feeds scam is focused on spending money on Bluesky and not on actually building out real public social media, the Fediverse.

The answer is that it is a grift. There is no way to get rich off of public infrastructure, so they are trying to kill it in favor of continued corporate dominance of social media.

If you really want freedom from billionaires maybe don't give them $30M of public money.

There's software that Just Works, and then there's Frustrating Software.

htop Just Works. LuaRocks is Frustrating Software. I wrote them both.

As a user and an author of Frustrating Software, there's a very particular brand of frustration caused by its awkward workflows.

I think it’s important to keep reminding ourselves of the reasons we want decentralized social media or a Fediverse or anything like it to win. It’s because if implemented properly it makes the world a better place. It protects free speech, but it also makes it possible for people to choose the level of moderation they care about, to be in a place that corresponds with their values, and to feel safe in it.
