Really missing Casio’s design style from the 90s.

The Casio "Magical Light" ML-2 keyboard, in a cool gray color with a vivid deep indigo bar along the top of the keys, and a darker gray panel with other buttons in orange, yellow, green, and purple.
The bottom half of a Casio "my super magical diary" PDA, with green plastic, yellow hinges, a pink and purple buttons.
The box for a Casio JD-320BU, a digital diary with bright blue plastic and gray, yellow, peach, and mint buttons.

With AOL killing Dial Up Internet I was curious what still exists. I've found that there is over an estimated 160,000 people still using dial up in the US as their only connection (there are others using dial up as a fallback)

Earthlink quietly shut off dial up access in early 2024 (best I can tell).

Incredibly Juno and NetZero both still offer 10 free hours of dial up a month (and unlimited subscriptions).

Which, not really ..but sure. Because if that is the case, the code "does not matter", idk why we'd generate garbage transpiler undebuggable code when we can just as easily generate well tested, dependency free, web native semantically correct code that performs better and is accessible.

Jobs-level successes for Cook? Let's see:

Airpods—the entire range.
Apple Watch. (Not huge, just the world's highest-grossing luxury watch brand.)
Apple's migration to M-series CPUs (a post-Jobs move).

These are all smaller-scale than Jobs' successes, but each gross in the billions of dollars/year—comparable to Jobs' huge successes from the late 90s to late 2000s.

Apple is so vast these days it's impossible to debut a new product that increases their revenue by 100%/year.

Why Even Consider Switching?

After months of running a self-hosted Mastodon instance in my homelab, I was getting increasingly frustrated. Not with the Fediverse concept - that's brilliant - but with Mastodon's resource appetite.

And I explain many of the reasons I switched from running Mastodon to GoToSocial here, too:

Did you not read the story? Oregon tried to create a wildfire hazard map and a bunch of conspiracy theory losers got mad such a fuss that the State had to back down. This means the State wasn't as prepared as they should have been and wildfires likely caused more damage.

Those that spread these conspiracy theories shouldn't get paid by insurance companies, because their negligence cost others money.
