Another way to think of the Framework fiasco, perhaps:
I'm not naive. I don't think that when, say, I bought my XPS 13, Dell didn't send some percentage of that to the Koch brothers or whatever fascist du jour. But I live in a society, and I needed a laptop.
Framework's whole *thing*, their competitive advantage, was being better. For the most part, that came from upholding political values like repairability and OSS, but still.
They just blew up their entire competitive advantage.
I'm playing around with NextCloud and the first thing I would like to do is make it use my in-house, bespoke auth system. It seems like the user_saml plugin might be the thing to mess with, since it uses the words "Authentication via Environment Variable" but I have no idea what it means by that.
Ideally I'd have it just run a shell command for authentication, the way Qmail / Dovecot "passdb driver = checkpassword" works, since I already have that working for IMAP...

The AI Bubble is also a data center bubble, and by extension a commercial/industrial real estate bubble.
When it pops, it’s not just going to affect tech workers. It’s also going to hit construction workers, electricians, plumbers, and pipefitters, to name a few.
And we’re suddenly going to have a shitload of giant data centers, many sitting on what used to be residential land — the 2020s answer to dead malls.
