Now I'm just an unfrozen caveman, your real estate speculation confuses and frightens me, but there's one thing that I do know, and that is that if you have a big warehouse that generates too much heat, building it somewhere hot with no water is a bad idea.

Of course 23&Me was building a blood quantum database, but we weren't worried because we were curious about our background and it was just harmless fun.
We've been training a surveillance apparatus beyond the wildest dreams of any dictator this whole time.
We weren't worried because it's not like a bigoted authoritarian regime would rise and start abusing it, right?

Due to incredibly over leveraged and under planned circumstances for years, SO MANY of the very people who built and deployed today's modern Internet at scale to be resilient, secure, and more safe, are available for hire!
You too can rebuild your Security and SRE teams to enforce some super cost efficient practices and frameworks, such as knowing what software you actually depend on for your 💰💰💰💰 to flow.
For the low low price of "Actually Hiring People to Keep Your Business Secure Against Known Challenges", you too will prevent future chances of being hauled in front of a legislative body to account for your choices!!!

I don't know why this is a hot take on open source, but apparently it is, so I'm going for it.
If you own a package manager for an ecosystem as a for-profit company, literally your one job is to make sure that your product model is sustainable for your business model. That's it. That's what you signed up for.
I don't want to hear about sustainability and "the commons" from literal technical private domain landholders who are complaining that the business model they are selling isn't profiting enough.

Amelia and I are moving (internationally) and I can’t wait for it to just be done. There is so much stress, not just the packing but the paperwork, even getting confirmation from the airline on if we can take our cats (and if not, the whole non-refundable ticket goes in the bin). I’m barely getting any sleep lately.

Has the worst of liquid glass been reverted? I'm currently holding on to Sequoia with Reduced Transparency.
Sequoia started misbehaving like a beta OS anyway (seems they all do it instinctively post WWDC), so I'm contemplating replacing one set of Apple bugs with another.

Can we please all stop the "newcomers to Mastodon should visit this and that site, follow these rules" etc? Social networks evolve. Reddit's fall from grace has been hard to watch. Reddit was my first real exposure to internet culture. The first time I went "viral" was on Reddit. I had a 15 year old account that I recently deleted.
