I think that this sense that software is special comes from the fact that we just pantomime a respect for authorship, using open source as long as it requires nothing of us, never *meaningfully* treating a dependency manifest as any sort of credit for out own work, just ticking enough boxes to get the cost-cutting benefits and then moving on. We have accepted the plagiarism robot into our lives because we were already kinda okay with plagiarism all along

My thesis is evolving from “genAI is bad” (a rhetorical position that broader society has accepted as true and is thus feels less necessary as time goes on) towards “software isn’t special” (a position which I have been surprised about the need for, given that I thought it was *obvious* that creating software is something like composing a literary work, requiring similar creativity and bloody-mindedness, but many prominent industry figures are pivoting on a dime with respect to this fact)

Here’s a long-overdue #intro post! I’m Adam, and I’ve been building things on the web for about as long as there’s been a web. I run Neatnik LLC, omg.lol, and some other stuff. I was born and raised in upstate New York, but Louisville, Kentucky has been home for over 30 years now. I love playing Famicom games and I collect Pokémon cards. I use PHP. I don’t use AI. as an individual developer, how much would you pay per month for a Forgejo Actions compatible CI service (Codeberg or your own forge) that offers VM-based isolation and non-Linux runners (BSD, macOS, Windows), as well as real human support?
please select an answer that describes how much you feel would be fair to pay to cover your needs, whichever those currently are. assume there is a pricing plan that perfectly fits your usage.

@EUCommission The ATproto protocol is a technically bad protocol, inferior to the protocol that Mastodon/Fediverse uses, and it's developed by shady cryptocurrency scammers with anti-government views.
Add to that the death of anonymity plus advertisements/tracking and the tolerance of literal neo-nazis, and you have W Social.
Why would any sane person join W?!?
Ursula von der Leyen joining W on launch day, but having no presence on Mastodon despite Mastodon existing for over a decade, sends a conflicting signal that is opposed to the EU Commission claiming to want to continue their presence on Mastodon.

Scraping, historically, has been pretty important to the open web. And *most* scraping hasn't been *spidering*, which is the stronger, less intentional version. And even that could be acceptable, if you were polite about it.
What we've seen with AI orgs DDOS'ing everyone has meant that self-hosting has become incredibly hard as a baseline in a way that used to resemble targeted attacks which were generally *frowned upon* doing to someone.

I've learned that using a massager on my neck can help when I feel a headache coming on.
I've also learned how these headaches are weirdly tied to sleep. Right after a headache, if I end up taking a nap, my chances of getting a second headache increases.
My body is tired and the anxiety of anticipating these headaches is difficult. But, overall, things are improving. Yesterday I went to the beach with friends with no headache! I brought my massager lol.
