Lol, nice. I've said it before: linux kernel CVEs are no longer meaningful. You can't assess 432 new CVEs. You basically have to sit and wait to see which ones get a logo and a website or which ones become KEVs to prioritize.

7*7*31 Numbers Update 21 July

So I messed up on the reporting and apparently my announcement a few days ago included some days in June.

The updated numbers are

70/147 ppl
$4099.86 Total raised

There’s 10 days left in the month and I’d love to see us hit $5000.

Now is a great reminder to see if your company does donation matching.

Mozilla's leadership is all-in on "AI", and there's no other place to find people (and bots) who will give them a pat on the back for that.

Mullvad actively gives refunds if you state this as the reason, even if it goes against their 14-day policy. It worked for me. Ask Mullvad for a refund. Your money is being used to fund disgusting fascists, and no one in Mullvad cares. Make them care.

It was to be expected, but I need to stress how much #EuroPython benefitted from being the host of the CPython Core Summit this year.

As I keep repeating, the main value of #PyConUS for the COMMUNITY is the gathering of stakeholders for in-person exchange.

Given that I barely got any code written at the sprints (thanks, impromptu attrs sprinters, tho! ❤️) b/c I kept walking and talking and solving problems that otherwise take weeks to resolve, is a testament to how strong the attendance was.

In general I wish propertriary platforms did better at integrating with third-party clients. For example: Patreon feeds integrated with RSS (the same way 404 media does). That way I can enjoy the content when I am in the mood to get creator updates and not get an e-mail buildup

Luckily I still have the budget to support the creators, this is pure e-mail management

This was the most fun hour I've ever had, thanks to the whole null sector and extended EMF team who spent countless hours making it possible.

It's also the set which I've put the most amount of upfront work into and I really hope it shows, Every second of that was worth it knowing the amount of work that individuals put into make this event so great and so I hope I've done your hard work justice

I hope to see as many of you as possible between now and 2028.

@brib @grimalkina like, if I were a booster I would say something like “well of course you shouldn’t defraud the government with an LLM but you shouldn’t defraud the government with email either, surely you wouldn’t say that we should ban email”. personally I think such an argument is specious but it’s specious because of *tons* of additional facts way outside the mere fact of its use to do this particular crime.

Mastodon Feed

@brib @grimalkina this kind of weaponization of the tools does leave open a really important question: is the existence of such activities evidence of use an “abuse” of LLMs, making them merely a tool so powerful that they can only be used for good or for evil, or (despite the various positive data points) is there something structural within the technology itself that lends itself to negative outcomes? I have my own answer but it’s definitely not trivial or obvious.

I have responded to the rise of LLMs by making myself type MORE of my code. Less copy-pasting, less standard autocomplete.

You’ll never believe this: I can remember things better, and understand them more deeply!
