In the sci-fi novella "Profession" (1957) by Isaac Asimov, everyone's brains are tested for professional aptitude when they turn 18. Then they are "Educated" by a tape-reading machine, which rapidly trains their mind for a job

One man is told his brain cannot be Educated. He rebels, and tries to learn anyway, by reading books. Everyone ridicules him for learning so slowly.

SPOILER: The brain test showed he had the rare capacity for creativity.

Thinking about this in 2026, for reasons

An excerpt from Profession (1957), novella by Isaac Asimov. While technically not out of copyright, many copies are available on the web

This is a MASSIVE, years-old PR that adds a ton of documentation for how you can actually USE the framework, including adding enough of a built-in database adapter for the basics of session and user management that you can see a working example without intuiting a bunch of interface implementations from scratch.

The Twisted team doesn't have a ton of interest in the user-facing bits of our "microframework", Klein, which is a sort of Flask-alike for Twisted. Flask with Twisted characteristics, if you will.

There isn't a ton of interest from outside the community either, as the framework is a bit of an incomplete shell, having *parts* of form-handling and session-management but requiring you to build the other parts yourself from a barely-documented construction kit.

OK folks, I need some help from the #Python #OpenSource community.

I need a code review on this: https://github.com/twisted/klein/pull/594

You do not need to have any special qualifications other than a general interest in web frameworks. Experience with Twisted would be helpful but not required.

Hello #emacs friends: on some relatively recent update, #flycheck stopped displaying error messages reliably. After some investigation, I have discovered that the culprit seems to be `(customize-set-variable flycheck-display-errors-function 'flycheck-display-errors-via-eldoc) ; after switching to `(customize-set-variable flycheck-display-errors-function 'flycheck-display-errors-via-eldoc) it works again as expected but (obviously) with no colors any more. Is this an issue with eldoc or flycheck?

one day we will have safety regulations written about “AI”, but, like all regulations, they will be written in blood.

when I abstain from “AI” or suggest to you that you do the same, it is in large part because I would rather they not be written in my blood, or yours.

New ethernet adapter for gen2 router did not improve the situation. Support is now sending me a new dish and router, but they use a standard RJ45 cable, and the gen2 dish used a proprietary connector. I really don’t want to dig up 120 ft of conduit to replace the cable, so I’m going to snip and crimp the existing cable once the new hardware shows up.
