Thoughts on mountains on #mountainmonday.
I wanted to hike the Monte Pelmo, today, after being forced to give up, last week.
I had to cancel again.
The extreme heat is melting the permafrost and the mountain is literally crumbling. It's not safe, now. Another consequence of climate change that breaks my heart.
I then decided to hike another round ring I have been wanting to do since forever: the Mondeval plateau from Toffol.

On the left, the jagged ridges of Lastòi del Formìn rise sharply, their rocky faces contrasting with the lush green meadows in the foreground. At the center, the imposing Monte Pelmo dominates the scene with its bold, rugged profile. Immediately to its right, Cima Mondeval stands tall, its peak adding to the majestic skyline. On the far right, the distinctive silhouette of Civetta completes the breathtaking landscape, creating a harmonious blend of natural beauty and alpine grandeur.

Critics argued the DJT Revocable Trust fell far short of that standard: Trump remained the sole beneficiary, his son controlled the assets, and Trump could revoke the arrangement at any time. Shaub later commented that the arrangement was “meaningless from a conflict of interest perspective” and that “setting up a trust to hold his operating businesses adds nothing to the equation. I’m pondering a policy change for social.lol/omg.lol, but I’d really like your input on it.

We don’t currently have any rules surrounding sharing AI or generative content here. (We have very little of that content being shared, but there’s some.)

I don’t think outright forbidding it is the right approach. What one person might view as “slop” might be regarded by someone else as the assistive output from an accessibility tool. The lines can be blurry and the use cases aren’t always black and white.

What I’d like to explore is a policy around honest disclosure of generative AI outputs. Forget about whether it’s good or bad or right or wrong — those debates will continue regardless (as they should). But separate from any moral or ethical considerations, the question is: would it be reasonable to ask anyone who shares generative AI outputs to clearly label them as such?

Using a consistent hashtag would take care of disclosure, and would also make it easy for folks to hide that content if they don’t want to see it.

What do you think?

Would you allow an AI company to make a model trained off your open source licensed work, if the model was guaranteed to be open weights under an MIT-like license, and the training dataset was public?

And

Do you think that the existing licenses of open source work allow this already? (answers may vary by license)

It's a growing opt-in directory of software developers who write code by hand. When you hear someone tell you “nobody does that” you can point to this and say “well these folks do.”

If you're #ProCraft and care about the future of handcrafted software, please add yourself to the list! I'd love to see this grow to 100s of signatories (I know y'all are out there!) and really send a message.

There are people who say "nobody authors code by hand any longer." We are here to say that's incorrect. Because we do it. All the time. If you write code by hand, add your name to this list!
