I’m pondering a policy change for social.lol/omg.lol, but I’d really like your input on it.
We don’t currently have any rules surrounding sharing AI or generative content here. (We have very little of that content being shared, but there’s some.)
I don’t think outright forbidding it is the right approach. What one person might view as “slop” might be regarded by someone else as the assistive output from an accessibility tool. The lines can be blurry and the use cases aren’t always black and white.
What I’d like to explore is a policy around honest disclosure of generative AI outputs. Forget about whether it’s good or bad or right or wrong — those debates will continue regardless (as they should). But separate from any moral or ethical considerations, the question is: would it be reasonable to ask anyone who shares generative AI outputs to clearly label them as such?
Using a consistent hashtag would take care of disclosure, and would also make it easy for folks to hide that content if they don’t want to see it.
