One of the young jackdaws has become particularly relaxed around me. They injured their wing a few weeks ago and were unable to fly, so hopped around in the safety of our garden till they'd recovered their strength. Now, they've decided they like it here and stick around long after the other crows have finished their breakfast

So, we just had a lovely photoshoot 😍

Solar Farms Are Having An Unexpected Effect On The Environment

It's already known that solar panels are having a surprising effect on local wildlife."

I keep seeing techbro companies pop up that are using names of things that already exist. It's hard to prove but I feel like this is because they're asking an LLM for advice, and the LLM is pulling a suggestion from something in its weights.

For example, we've been running an event named Hack & Craft for years, and there's a company that started a bit ago with that name.

And now I see a "Gooseworks" company, and there's a famous trans filmmaker named Gooseworx

I dunno, can't prove it, but it seems like that's what's happening

Your semi-regular reminder that given the size and extent of the “AI” bubble it’s an absolute certainty that fraud is involved in it somewhere. We don’t know the scale or location of the fraud but you simply do not get a trillion-dollar bubble without fraud, both financial and in information/discourse

And all that fraud is going to be lined up supporting “AI”. Calibrate your scepticism accordingly.

Tweet from Steven Havre Trump is taking a victory lap because prescription drug prices just fell 3.1%, the biggest drop since 1963. Cute. Medicare's first negotiated drug prices kicked in this year, cutting prices on 10 major drugs by 38% to 79%. The out of pocket cap came from the same law. That law? Biden's Inflation Reduction Act. Not. One. Republican. Voted. For. It. Republicans love Democratic legislation once there's a ribbon to cut.

So, they got ‘lesbian reality’ right but not ‘reality show’

Everyone loves the analogy between open source maintainers and gardeners. Open source is like gardening!

But I've flipped the script and am running my garden like open source and hoo boy let me tell you it is not going well.

Lots of things are thriving, and some of it is stuff I planted! We haven't given the blueberries proper watering in *years*. I'm pretty sure we planted those onions? But they aren't where I remembered putting them...

@Netzblockierer @the_wub @itgrrl @amydiehl if someone really want to track you there are better ways to do it, even average technical skilled person will pit together esp32, gps module, sim800 gsm model and prepaid m2m simcard and lion battery and fairly short micropython script and sick it at the bottom of your car. All those things you can buy really low profile from different vendors and good luck trying to track it back to bad actor.

So lets count BOM
Esp32c3 module 6 Eur
Sim800 module 7 eur
Lion-battery 10 eur
GPS module 15 eur
Some other stuff around 5 eur
Total 43 eur (lets say less than 2x more than AirTag, but realtime tracking working)

And now the point, I think none of commentators here will argue they are bad technology. But if bad actor put them together, here we go. And the same in most cases applies to almost any technology.
