Quick raven sketch, mid call. Worked the .3 and .5 graphite pencils to get that near black feather range without losing the shape. Ravens hold grudges for years apparently, feels right for a bird drawn looking this deliberate. Done at a coffee shop table in Ithaca, NY #sciart #bird

Graphite sketch of a raven mid call, beak open, feathers rendered in fine detailed strokes with dramatic tonal contrast. The bird stands on a branch, one leg lifted, set against a mostly blank cream page. A mechanical pencil, kneaded eraser, and coffee cup rest beside the sketchbook on a wooden table.

I’m wondering if anyone would be interested in some kind of network for those in or engaging with academic CS or math who are skeptical/suspicious/or otherwise opposed to LLMs/“AI”? Personally, I feel a great deal of loneliness on this matter at the moment, and would appreciate the camaraderie if nothing else! I’m thinking this could be a Signal group chat if nothing else. If you’re interested, let me know with a response to this post. Would also appreciate boosts for visibility!

gitlab for redox AI Policy Redox OS does not accept contributions generated by LLMs (Large Language Models), sometimes also referred to as "AI". This policy is not open to discussion, any content submitted that is clearly labelled as LLM-generated (including issues, merge requests, and merge request descriptions) will be immediately closed, and any attempt to bypass this policy will result in a ban from the project.

One of the young jackdaws has become particularly relaxed around me. So, we just had a lovely photoshoot 😍

I keep seeing techbro companies pop up that are using names of things that already exist. It's hard to prove but I feel like this is because they're asking an LLM for advice, and the LLM is pulling a suggestion from something in its weights.

For example, we've been running an event named Hack & Craft for years, and there's a company that started a bit ago with that name.

And now I see a "Gooseworks" company, and there's a famous trans filmmaker named Gooseworx

I dunno, can't prove it, but it seems like that's what's happening

Your semi-regular reminder that given the size and extent of the “AI” bubble it’s an absolute certainty that fraud is involved in it somewhere. We don’t know the scale or location of the fraud but you simply do not get a trillion-dollar bubble without fraud, both financial and in information/discourse

And all that fraud is going to be lined up supporting “AI”. Calibrate your scepticism accordingly.

Tweet from Steven Havre Trump is taking a victory lap because prescription drug prices just fell 3.1%, the biggest drop since 1963. Cute. Medicare's first negotiated drug prices kicked in this year, cutting prices on 10 major drugs by 38% to 79%. The out of pocket cap came from the same law. That law? Biden's Inflation Reduction Act. Not. One. Republican. Voted. For. It. Republicans love Democratic legislation once there's a ribbon to cut.
