Day 78 of anti-corruption protest in Tirana, Albania

🔴Diaspora i bashkohet sërish revoltës në shesh: Kërkojmë dorëheqjen e Ramës

This is the last night of this diaspora weekend - with many of the Albanian diaspora having traveled here again to do the protest.

There are also a couple banners that make reference to Day 16 of the protest against the forced consolidation of the Municipality of Divjakë with the Municipality of Lushnje. So it's not a completely unrelated protest, but people are inspired to get out on the streets due to the Flamingo Revolution.

Total Solar Eclipse Over Spain Image Credit & Copyright: Ruiyu Zhang Text: Keighley Rockcliffe (NASA GSFC, UMBC CSST, CRESST II) Explanation: On August 12th, 2026, the Moon totally eclipsed the Sun and cast its shadow across Siberia, Greenland, Iceland, Spain, and Portugal. Today’s image features two total solar eclipses viewed from Zaragoza, Spain, one over the Cathedral-Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar and the other reflecting in the Ebro River. For a few moments, Spain saw its first major total solar eclipse since 1905. Those witnessing totality may experience a chill in the air, the quieting of birds, the confused chirps of insects, and the shared awe of many. It’s the corona’s time to shine as the Sun’s bright disk is blocked by the Moon. Among other reasons to study eclipses, they help scientists understand why the corona is millions of degrees hotter than the Sun’s surface. Enthusiastic citizens can contribute to these studies by recording how wildlife responds, imaging the corona, and monitoring air temperature and clouds.

This #FOSSY has further solidified my belief that we invest far too much time into writing software and licenses. We need to connect the four freedoms to material issues in people's lives.

People hate tech right now. Absolutely despise it. AI data centers and Flock cameras are the biggest targets but there are so many. On top of it, the economic system makes production of creative works nearly impossible. Unless we view those types of fights as core FOSS community issues, we're going to be stuck where we are.

The problem isn't (just) that you don't have the four freedoms, it's that the system guarantees oppression and misery. The lack of software freedom is a symptom of the problem, not THE problem.

EDIT: also, how is age-gating not a red alarm fire in our community?!
