Implicit here is that I have DNSMasq provisioning internal DNS records based on DHCP client IDs (and whatever else gets sent along in DHCP, I don't know exactly how it infers it). If it matters, the router is a unifi router, but I am also interested in solutions to this problem that use OpenWRT.

One way to solve the issue is to do … something … to dnsmasq to get it to behave, another would be a client app that deterministically spoofs the MAC address of a dock whenever I connect to one

I have 3 computers, A, B, and C. These computers serve different purposes but those purposes are sometimes served by different human-interface affordances. Thus, I have 3 USB docks, D, E, and F. Each dock has an ethernet adapter; each adapter has its own MAC address.

This is annoying because sometimes A is docked at F; I want it to be identified as A.home.internal for networking purposes. But if C was recently docked at F, the DHCP lease belongs *to F* and thus it will be C.home.internal.

Hell yeah, looks neat! the thing I like about orphaned pages is that the other person doesn't need any new software and I can host the stuff for them, e.g. this thing had ~1GB of video on it and I wouldnt want someone to have to download that all at once just to cruise through a gallery, but I am a big fan of any kind of local, direct filesharing tools!

So, you could start up a local server, have someone run `sned meet` to configure aliases for each other. Then `sned tcp-connect` them to a web server you're running locally.

in a universe where everything is instantly scraped and consumed and tracked it is a quiet kind of freedom to be able to rent a domain and be able to put one-off pages on it that would only be findable by brute force enumeration of the domain. every web content system is built around not creating "orphan pages" like this, but if you are a human being online who just wants to show something to a few people, they're the best way i know how to. i feel like this would be made impossible if the web protocols were written today.
