it’s really weird to see people post about Apple not betting on AI as Apple rushes the release of the ear cameras that can only feed photos into an LLM, right after Apple started a fight with the EU over the API they designed that lets an LLM access all the data on your device

how it's going

Draft of a woodcarved dragon, focus on the front legs, sanded and oiled
The draft, but now the dragon has 3 horns that are no longer sticks, the last one is still rough
Dragon has now a ridge/crown, a fifth smaller horn betwin the first two
The neck has some wrinkles on the part facing downward

Everyone should think about the meat proxies in their lives. I see people here every single day who speak out against AI but cozy up to devs who openly vibe-code their stuff. Supporting an "indie" dev who's using the very tools that you refuse to use yourself isn't the upright stance you think it is. It's like buying a carbon offset and thinking you accomplished something.

Bizarre and annoying coda number 2: apparently the binding of “virtual interface” to “network device” on macOS is by like… vendor, or driver type, or USB device name, or something, and *not* by MAC addresses. 2 of my adapters are Realtek and 1 is Intel. When I added the VLAN to the Intel adapter, it applied to the Intel adapter. when I added one to the first realtek, it applied to both realteks.

This doesn’t cause any problems for me in this specific situation, but… what an odd choice

More iOS 26 bugs: the refresh button in Safari sometimes just disappears. One tab got stuck in an infinite form resubmit cycle upon returning to Safari after a hop to another app. And that’s just the bugs in the past hour or so. This OS is one of the buggiest I’ve used even without the UX disaster

Did you know that PySide6.QtWidgets.QFileDialog.getExistingDirectory()
behaves differently on Windows to macOS ? i.e. the returned path on macOS (and presumably Linux) has a trailing slash, whereas on Windows it does not.

Ordinarily not a huge deal, except when you use os.path.dirname combined with os.path.basename to get the final part of the path, which works swimmingly on macOS, but the lack of trailing slash means it breaks on Windows.

An easy fix, but something that caught me off guard.

During programming, it's powered by the same NFC signal from your phone that's programming it. And since it's e-paper, it doesn't need power after that.

The status bar shows 58 mines marked out of 120 after more than five minutes of playing, suggesting that it's slow going. Also, a solid wall of mines prevents any progress around most of the boundary of the cleared area: it looks as if the only way through is in the bottom left, so it might be necessary to solve all the way along the bottom edge to get into the top right corner at all?
