This week on #OpenSourceSecurity I had a chat with @paulasadoorian about a tool he wrote called Fettle and a report he wrote that focuses on advisories instead of just the CVEs
We love making a huge deal about individual CVEs, but most of us have to deal with advisories that clump them together. It gets even weirder when you have to deal with firmware advisories
Paul is always fun to chat with and has some stories that are equal part amusing and scary

It's not entirely clear what the future US economy is supposed to be doing other than buy stuff with debt

In the late 90s/early 2000s the US deindustrialised by outsourcing manufacturing
The bargain was basically "you make the stuff, we provide design, research, services, software, and financial markets"
Now they seem to be "de-servicing" as well:
- US films and TV are being shot abroad
- Software dev and related are being outsourced to LLMs and the shift from US models to cheaper non-US ones seems certain
- Finance is all-in on "AI" while tariffs and trade wars destroy its fundamentals1/2

I am looking once more for theme ideas for Pivot to AI.
hard requirement: complete post text on the front page, with paragraphs, formatting and hyperlinks, unless it's cut off with a "Read more". In two columns.
see https://pivot-to-ai.com/ for what i mean, gotta replace that
there are many themes that don't meet this requirement. it appears rare!
anyone know one that definitely does this?
currently using Blocksy, which does it great except it also completely breaks caching, leading to excess server load when it should be serving static copies
[suggestions of "have you tried afdskjhfdsa-fdsasahfkdsajfsa instead of WP" are not the question being asked thanks]
I asked previously here without results: https://circumstances.run/@davidgerard/116323282138970741

Hello! I need a room in East London BY SEPTEMBER for a month, possibly two. I'm planning to move in with two others soon but that won't happen before I lose this place.
I need it to be cheap and to have wifi, and the basic living appliances - fridge, freezer, oven, washing machine - but otherwise don't really need much except somewhere to put my stuff (piled high in my room is ok).
I will mostly be in my room quietly working and organising the next move, but I am shockingly lovely in person and will be very easy to live with
Boosts / passing on / whatever welcome, thank you

Some vibe-coders protest their apps are rejected too fast, can't be a proper review. Well, they explicitly wrote it's vibe coded, and our policy does not allow that. It's like:

So; I've spent the afternoon playing with my virtual server setup at home. Along the way, I've found the need to write down a couple of interesting things I've found about how I can make my linux experience less frustrating.
So obviously, I spun up a new blog which contains at least one post on how terminal information can be passed between machines (which, despite having used linux for a long time, I literally found out today).
The blog is: https://apollo.lucien.me.uk/~dave/

OK fedi: who do I know that's self hosted a podcast RSS feed before?
I'm tempted to spin one up using a static site, wondering if anyone has done this recently and can warn me about pitfalls.
Note: I know of Castopod and lots of other dedicated podcast hosting platforms, I'm trying to avoid bespoke "podcast engines" and just build an RSS feed on a static site.

Day 3 without Internet, 18:00.
I spent twenty minutes trying to remember the name of an actor.
Normally I would simply look it up, now I have to live with not knowing.
I'm beginning to understand why ancient civilizations invented religions.
Anyway if you've found my posting here entertaining or any of that sounds good to you, it's nice to get the validation that even $1/mo can bring :). Thanks for reading, now back to non-self-promotional (and thus non-excruciating) posting…
Sponsorship also includes the occasional feature in a commit messages for my own projects (albeit not Twisted or upstream stuff) via <https://github.com/glyph/sponcom>.
Or you can find the Patreon page here, http://patreon.com/creatorglyph — in either case I'll make sure you get access to updates if you are so interested, via a gift link.
Hopefully one of these days I will finally manage to clear the unspeakably overambitious One Big AI Post (or, if we're all lucky, just split it up into more manageable individual topics like the articles you can already see there). But if you're more interested in the software side of things, you can support that work on Github Sponsors instead https://github.com/sponsors/glyph/
There's a variety of work you can support; this week it's a lot of open source stuff, but sometimes it's writing for my blog. https://blog.glyph.im
My (bi-)weekly update is up for patrons. After such a disrupted H1 this year, it's nice to put out an update that I feel like is a solid chunk of open source maintenance work and doesn't require qualification or hedging.
