and that's entire select queries turned to sql strings now. it can handle a fairly wide range of syntax.

you can still generate invalid sql of course, but like i said, that's where it starts to get hard.

i need to think harder about result types. at the minute everything is just a list of postgres types and i haven't done anything about the data you get back.

very happy so far though. the type checker fought me a lot less than my last attempt so i guess i'm on the right track.

or maybe let's think about it a different way. why does software need to change? let's be optimistic and say that maybe 1% of changes to software are to add useful new features and fix actual implementation bugs. 99% of changes are to support new/buggy hardware that only exists because of planned obsolescence (or to pad transistor counts so chip manufacturers can keep number going up) or to support some new scheme to monetize computer use (surveillance, app stores, gambling in various forms)

That's a *lot* of the content. But I've also learned things I never went looking for.

Recently. This American Life posted a preview of one of their episodes on TikTok, which got me to go listen to the full episode. So there are paths to the deeper engagement, even if the platform itself isn't great for that. When it works well, it can help the audience that hasn't found you yet find you.

This is where we're at. More and more projects just adopt AI every day, many in very obvious "we barely reviewed what it's doing" ways, and it's just not stopping and pressure is obviously not working.

And can you blame maintainers, when no one is stepping up to help, they're getting flooded with AI bugs, and people just don't give a fuck unless it's highly visible, even if the blast radius is immense if it breaks?

I ran my own relay for a while. But I found the community a bit too crypto-bro, and the protocol a bit too "whatever you can fit into the JSON payload". It ended up trying to do too many things with too little specification.

I liked some things and learned some other lessons from it, though. 😃
