Things I wish got more attention in software:

• A lot of software devs don't code because they love it, and a lot of people who assumed most developers love what they do have been living in a bubble
• To drive that point home: yes, for many programmers, I'd say most in the industry even: it's a job, not something they take any pride in, no more than most people who work at McDonald's take pride in making hamburgers
• It very much shows in software quality, which has been unacceptably low for a considerable period of time, but the floor as of late has gotten lower; we are approaching Windows 98 levels of low-quality
• Even FOSS is now often governed by industry, big projects have a lot of people being paid to work on them
• Smaller projects that are foundational but not considered flashy often rarely get any attention
• Not enough people are really helping at the lower layers of the stack, and Claude is, unfortunately, filling that gap
• There is a genuine pent-up desire for people to learn the lower parts of the stack, but it feels intimidating and it is still very much gatekept and hard to learn
• If we want to have more humans writing software, more people need to be doing what I'm doing: mentoring others in this space and helping them learn the lower parts of the stack
• "It was hard for me" should mean you help people up the ladder, not push the ladder down and say "it should be hard for them, too"

Though "MUST", "MUST NOT", "SHOULD", and "SHOULD NOT" are valid to use in spec writing, "MAY" is used but "MAY NOT" is not, because "may not" in English is ambiguous. See how the two different uses in the first and second post in this thread differ; one forbids, the other says it's optional.

As far as I can tell, the main problem LLMs actually solve is stagnant valuations for certain companies. Its helped along by the usual people hoping to get rich "disrupting" things and by being a new tool to punch down at labor as well as being a strange messianic object.
