@iro_miya the way I look at it, an unhealthy coping mechanism is one where, in the long term, it does more harm than it prevents.

drug addictions are a typical example because you might use them to deal with a short-term problem and then be stuck with them for a long time, but there's many other kinds, like developing communication habits that protect you in one specific environment but that will impair your communication with everyone *outside* that environment forever after that.

healthy coping mechanisms I would consider to be the ones that may still have a negative effect in the moment, or even a mild negative effect in the long term, but where the harm arising from that is meaningfully below that of the thing it's protecting you from - ie. you'd be worse off long-term if you *didn't* have it.

De Ambris would later go on to leave the movement, renounce fascism entirely and go into exile, but Marinetti remained an enthusiastic supporter of the fascist regime until he died in 1944.

@fellmoon @chpietsch I can't remember who pointed this out, but in the 1900s there was an Italian movement called Futurism which used art to make all the new tech look shiny and attractive, in order to sell the vision that the tech would bring about a utopia. Fast forward 20 years and many of the very same people were working for the early Fascism movement.

You can see the parallels now with Marc Anderseen's Techno-Optimist Manifesto

@fellmoon @chpietsch From my POV, LLMs are by design bullshit generators, they spit out the next-most-likely-word rather than using a model of truth. This benefits the people with a disdain for truth in multiple ways, first, they can use LLMs to spit out lies, second, they can use bullshit to discredit truth. Fascism is notorious for having a disdain for truth, because the truth will discredit their ideology.

Also, LLMs immensely concentrate power which is useful for the fascist project. LLM models are owned and trained by giant companies with the support of trillions of dollars. Then LLMs can be used as a chokehold on knowledge (see: rare book shredding) and can also be used to precartise labour.

AI is also-also used for surveillance which is useful to anyone who wants to control a population, which is again useful to the fascist project. As an example: this is basically what Flock cameras are for
