A large tugboat tied to a pier. The hull is green and the structure is white with the word FOSS in large green letters. There is a white building in the background with FOSS on it too.

How much of a compromise is it really, though?

At some point, Docker finally added this thing that I have wanted for a decade: `host-gateway`. I can now (with a simple matter of manually fixing every single Dockerfile I've ever written) do --add-host=my.host.internal.example.net=host-gateway to both run https://docs.docker.com/reference/cli/docker/container/run/#add-host *and* build https://docs.docker.com/reference/cli/docker/buildx/build/#add-host and automatically *share my local DevPI cache* with every container-based build

Abstractly I admire the practice of making such donations anonymously so as to avoid the motivation to donate merely for personal clout, and I can tell just from timing that some of you must have done that. But even as I appreciate that in principle, when I see mutual or follower names I recognize in the donor list they immediately and permanently go on a mental list labeled "Real Ones". Thanks to everyone, especially the ones I don't know I'm thanking ❤️

hey remember that RAM that tested bad and that we removed from our laptop in january?

turns out memtest86+ has a mode that outputs the linux memmap kernel parameter one needs to mark the bad memory as reserved!

this param tells the kernel not to use these 8 bytes at address 0xa3195e670 for normal memory allocation
neat!

memtest86+ showing its linux memmap error output, identifying 0x8$0xa3195e670 as the length and range to reserve using the memmap kernel parameter

Which one offers the closest to 1Password’s experience and has a no AI-use policy?

Illustration: a character with a suitcase is leaning towards a canal in the middle of a very detailed city with tall building with blue roofs, solar panel and wind turbine. There actually a ton of details it’s hard to describe how overwhelming it feels. There are many plants, some seagulls, coffee shop, ton of wires… the vibes are serene and peaceful.
