The example that's been on my mind lately is the "democratizing" saw that slopbros keep harping. Already before AI it was true that creating things with computers was too difficult, and that low code/no code products were often tied to subscription services — that is, a lack of comfort with user-hostile tooling was treated as a form of lock-in.

It's thus not surprising that "democratizing" now looks like encapsulating the commons and locking in to "your first hit is free" models.

Part of why I keep coming back to "AI doesn't cause problems, it dramatically accelerates and exacerbates them" as a framing is that the slopbros working so hard to push AI products are, above all, capitalist accelerationists. It helps to look for where things already went wrong, where capitalism already ate our lunches before AI came along.
