Yes, this is a deliberate play on Mijoro’s name.
I have… complicated feelings regarding this drawing. I’ve had the idea to make this combination for a while: a Pride-themed piece that would also take into account that Madagascar’s Independence Day falls on June 26, i.e. during the most observed version of Pride Month. I even had the title figured out before I had anything else.
The first version of the idea, back in 2025, did not actually go that far. A sketch exists, nothing more. It might be recycled someday in the future.
The 2026 version, this version, I still wanted to finish in time for Independence Day. My brain unfortunately said no, and by the deadline, once again, I only had a sketch. But this time, I considered the idea too important to either postpone or cancel it again, so I kept chipping at it. I just could not even focus on any other of my (too many) other WIPs until I finished this one.
And so, almost three months past the deadline, almost four months after I put the first line down, here we are.
And the sheer irony of this drawing’s title is that I’m still not sure I dare post this to my “normie” accounts, to be seen by most of my Malagasy contacts. The general political atmosphere just doesn’t make me feel as safe as only one year ago.
It’s all too complicated.
But now, at least, the idea has actually managed to make its way out of my head.
