I think it’s firmly on Microsoft’s shoulders, the rollout of Recall and Copilot+ PC was just a series of own goals. They had huge expectations for it in terms of consumer demand and just.. didn’t think it through on many levels.

did you know: you can just ban AI and its defenders from your project, and you don't need to be afraid of "not being able to enforce it" because it doesn't really matter
very few projects are high-profile enough for anyone to go to far enough lengths to hide their AI usage such that it becomes a problem for you, and statistically you're almost certainly not one of those projects
and if people just widely start banning it, damn the consequences or enforceability, then the whole thing of "sneaking past AI slop" becomes broadly socially unacceptable long before it has any chance of turning into a practical problem for you
the enforceability doesn't matter

I get it. For years you hung out at “Old Joe’s” and it was great. But then the Nazi’s moved in and at some point it got renamed “The Horst Wessel Arms”. You long for the old days, but the /reality/ is that things have changed. To deny that is delusional. You’re reminded of the new reality every night as you stop by for a beer.
So, no, I won’t join you for a drink at Old Joe’s, because Old Joe’s /no longer effing exists/. If you say that to me you’re either trying to fool me or fool yourself.
