In an article he published in July, @andrewnez explains the size of npm dependency trees with the resolver.

In PHP, the resolver is ultimately the engine itself: one name, one definition, one version per process.

That is why PHP trees stay small, and why PHPUnit's PHAR has to rename its dependencies:

JFC, Xcode 27 is pushing the AI bullshit *harrrrrd*. There are 3 or 4 preference checkboxes for "No AI plz" but they barely do anything. Every single compilation warning has a little sparkle-icon where you can ask the plagiarism machine to drop a turd onto the deprecated method you were calling. You can't make it go away, at all.

Job hunt is going SWIMMINGLY (sarcasm). Going to just put this out there again to refresh things now that it's been... a while.

Trying to #GetFediHired as some form of controls/automation engineer in the #Portland metropolitan area - I've done a decent bit of work with SEL and Allen Bradley/Rockwell PLCs, with some support for manufacturing at my latest job and helping upgrade an old controls system from Allen Bradley to SEL Axion PLCs at a hydroelectric plant. Open to pretty much any field related to electrical engineering. If you happen to be in the Portland metro and know someone who knows someone (or you are that someone), shoot me a DM here, via Signal (SenilTheSynth.16), or email (linked on my website, which'll get updated soon).

I'll have a loose resume on a page at https://sean.howland.cc later today, just kind of a highlight reel of the general roles I've been in and what I've done. Please reach out to me or just. Send shit my way if you know of anything. Fully aware that my kind of job can't be readily done remotely, at best some degree of hybrid would be nice but also 90% of what I've done and will continue to do will inevitably be in-person or hybrid but on-call.

I will state that I have not taken the Fundamentals of Engineering exam to become an EIT, however I have the materials to study and can at least make my first attempt prior to hiring (soon... if I can get the money to pay for the fucking exam fee) or shortly after starting. Can start basically as soon as background checks and all that clears.

I would compare it to writing fiction, you can write fiction in an adequate way to get a paycheck (see average pulp sci-fi) or you can get really weird with it. pour your whole soul into it. agonise over it for weeks. use it to work through some shit.

"These things are good at generating code" is a phrase that makes me think that you do not review the output of the code generating hell machine.

For example, Muse's had a shell script who's usage example is (working from memory of @jonny 's thread) `print_home_dir.sh ` that was literally just an `echo /hard/coded/dir`...which is just consumed by several other shell scripts in the environment, and included a big "AND NOTHING ELSE" in it. It's peak stupid.

Big tech is more and more mask-off every day.

A LinkedIn post from me that reads "DHH is openly a Nazi. You should not promote anything he is doing or relay his opinions on software development. It is shocking to me when I open this app and see people casually discussing his opinions on AI or interface design or whatever, as if he were a "thought leader". He is an open advocate for mass murder. It doesn't matter what else he thinks, do not promote his ideas." followed by the text "Only you can see this post because this content goes against our Professional Community Policies."
