I suddenly wanted to know which color scheme Bram Moolenaar used in vim. Just curious! I had this urge to add it to Gram… Can’t find anyone asking him this though. I’m sure it’s one of the builtin schemes, and that he has probably answered this on mail or IRC at some point. Maybe he switched often. Anyway, now I am feeling sad because I can’t ask him.

No punches pulled here: "In fact, today’s LLMs and the chatbots they power are not poorly understood, nor are they powerful in the sense of being effective tools for this use case. They are systems for generating plausible-looking text, built out of enormous, haphazardly collected datasets and then “fine-tuned” (that is, further trained) to be especially appealing to their intended users."

Murphy's Military Laws

- Never share a foxhole with anyone braver than you are.
- No battle plan ever survives contact with the enemy.
- Friendly fire ain't.
- The most dangerous thing in a combat zone is an officer with a map.
- The problem with taking the easy way out is that the enemy has already mined it.
- The buddy system is essential to your survival; it gives the enemy somebody else to shoot at.
- The further you are in advance of your own positions, the more likely your artillery will land short.
- Incoming fire has the right of way.
- If your advance is going well, then you are walking into an ambush.
- The quartermaster has only two sizes, too large and too small.
- If you really need an officer in a hurry, then take a nap.
- The only time suppressive fire works is when it is used on abandoned positions.
- The only thing more accurate than incoming enemy fire is incoming friendly fire.
- There is nothing more satisfying that having someone take a shot at you, and miss.
- Don't be conspicuous.
- If it draws fire in a combat zone, then it draws sergeants out of a combat zone.
- If your sergeant can see you, then so can the enemy.

Digital Ocean killed its "we give Open Source projects a bit of free hosting" policy basically at the same time they dropped 3 million USD on Omarchy, DHH's (who is a fascist and racist) set of config files he calls a distribution.

This is exactly the kind of "Power Grab" I wrote about a few weeks ago: https://tante.cc/2026/09/11/power-grab/

DHH is working towards accumulating open source funding to be able to direct it towards projects that align with his technical and ideological views.

It's hard to overstate how dangerous that is for all of us.

The only feasible age verification method is a checkbox “⌧ Are you 18?”

@glyph They are all properly developer signed as far as I am aware, but Apple's signing infrastructure is shifting sands, so who knows? If you understand this stuff and could look at one of the .saver bundles and say "yes that looks signed correctly", that would be helpful. But, the savers *run* and I would expect that to not happen if they were improperly signed.
