I made a few small edits, including adding a small blurb under the embedded TikTok video to address a little bit of pushback I've gotten.

@brib @gavi @0x4d6165 this was originally called the "hemingwrite". I'm not sure I could recommend it, it's expensive and it has a lot of weird limitations, but for some poeple it might really do the trick
@brib @gavi @0x4d6165 good news https://getfreewrite.com

@glyph @gavi @0x4d6165 Someday I need to make a computer that has a word processor (or processors) and the most limited connectivity one can get away with just to transfer files to and from the computer so that dysgraphic people get distraction-free writing too
Wonder if that could work as a business idea

I should add: If anyone lives in the #UK I've managed to get (mostly) through the byzantine system of the #DisabledStudentsAllowance (the UK system for getting disability accommodations at uni) so feel free to ping any questions.

If you have adhd and are in college, my biggest piece of advice would be to get accommodations, get medicated in some way that works for you if you are able to (obviously do this with a psychiatrist), speak with a therapist to work on coping with ADHD and what you struggle with/see if there’s therapy offered at your school with your tuition (some offer it), and take notes with pen and paper/find a note taking system that works for you that isn’t typing them on a computer.

And it’s not like those people are free, either. Golden handcuffs are a thing. Those salaries often include RSUs and other financial tricks that make it financially devastating to ever quit your job. Those work environments are also usually incredibly abusive. When we were working corporate, my wife described it as “They pay you that much to shut up and take their abuse.”
You need the job to be able to afford therapy that you need to keep doing the job.
I wish I were joking.
Having a big software engineer salary just means you have more wealth for them to extract. At the end of the day we’re all just the people in the pods in The Matrix, producing wealth for the capitalism machine.

We can agree to disagree. You can think that you've got enough subjective controls on your subjective assessment of your own productivity that you're making the best judgement available in your situation. (Maybe you should think a bit more about the ethics, but, okay, that's a separate conversation, and you might also have an answer for that.)
But please stop telling me that this hypothesis is "obviously stupid" without sharing _any_ evidence that is even the slightest bit incongruent with it.
Really tired of having this conversation over and over again.
A: "LLMs provide the illusion of productivity, by making you *feel* productive while wasting enough time that they're net negative."
B: "Come on. That's not a serious position any more. Maybe 3 years ago. Not today. Obviously they work."
A: "How do you know?"
B: "It's obvious."
A: "… because *you* use them, and they make *you* feel productive?"
B: "Are you calling me DELUSIONAL? Everybody who disagrees with you is just CRAZY?"
