Amiga 40 has been really cool until now but there's just one thing that bugged me, and it's not something specific, but something I saw in other retro scenes too.

The (fortunately not frequent) use of AI-generated images.

Please, please, please don't do that. Finding one in this context feels like having the time of your life, and then suddenly stepping on some dog shit.

you see… my mother was denied a college education by my grandfather, who wouldn’t sign the papers for her to even go to their local UPR community college, so where did my Puerto Rican mother end up after high school?…

that’s why #NASA hired teams of #embroidery #knitting #beading #fiberArts experts who all so happened to be not just women but mostly Native American, African American and Latinas. they were nicknamed the Little Old Ladies and without them there would be no Apollo program.

they won't even teach you in school that the LOLs were preceded by women who ―if they wanted a chance to enter college, a privilege only for men― they did so by being computers (mathematicians) for “real” scientists.

Hello, I’m an actual technology ethicist. This is weird and creepy but LLMS ARE NOT ALIVE OMG

The unethical thing is to treat them as if they are! Anthropomorphising LLMs does actual living humans far more of a disservice than even this weird creepy behaviour.

I've noticed a few times online, people talking about the "No AI" crowd being highly annoying, but then not really clarifying the behavior that was bothering them. That's troubling to me! I'm against AI, and I don't like being annoying! But then it feels too delicate to ask the complainer, because that pretty much guarantees that if I wasn't being annoying before, I sure am now.

Well, this may not be representative, but I did just see someone elaborate this a little bit, and the answer is... "we try to run a software stack devoid of LLM contributions, on our own computers."

...

I'm at a loss on this one.

A full shot of the ruins of an ancient theatre, located on a hillside.  The theatre's steep tiered seating structure is clearly visible, constructed of light gray stone blocks, weathering evident in various tones. The hillside surrounding the theatre is covered with grass, creating a contrast between the man-made stone structures and the natural landscape. Sections of crumbling stone walls and foundations are scattered throughout the grassy slopes.

It's like how five years ago, schools were being pressured to teach students "the blockchain" in place of actual computer programming. Only even more destructive & wasteful.
