If it is deployed *in this one specific way* I think it's important not to dismiss it, because "I don't want to think about the problem because I can wave it away with this other problem" is substantially different from "I *have* thought about it and I disagree with your conclusion". This doesn't mean the person is necessarily open to endless sealioning about their moral reasoning either but it does suggest discussion is possible.
