this isn't even really just a skeptic concern. if I were an enthusiast who thought AI was actually really good, but I still cared about truth, this would also piss me off. it's hard to make a convincing case when every researcher that might have an interesting counterpoint to consider leads off by implying they are pulling their punches. this practically begs every skeptic to assume the evidence is MUCH worse than even the terrible reports we have!
