Genuinely, writers (and other creative folks), my 30+ years of being online tells me this is the way to build an audience:
1. Be interesting and post about various things, not just your work
2. Actively support, encourage and promote other writers and creators
3. Resist trolls/chuds/bots (block and mute are your friends)
4. Try not to be a raging dickhead
5. Be patient
Nothing here is difficult or even very innovative, and it won't expand your following overnight. But it's worked for me.
