I met someone recently who uses LuaTeX to manage all their invoices.
The invoice doc is composed almost entirely in LaTeX, and there's just enough Lua in there to pull the latest component prices from a stock database, and store any side-effects that need storing. The PDF is guaranteed to have accurate prices at the time of invoice generation, and invoice time is also when the stock DB gets updated.
I think they were using it for managing stock/invoicing for bathroom remodelling.
*But hopefully at least a bit entertaining.
