Sugar cane is a fast growing grass biofuel. It's crushed to get sugar which is fermented to produce ethanol as fuel. The crushed stalks are called bagasse which can be burned to fuel the mill.

Back in the 1920s my grandpa used to crush cane, extract the sugar, ferment it, then distill it high up in the O'ahu mountains and drink it up during prohibition. 🤙 Shaka brah.
