There's not much recourse... if you only look at life through a corporate lens of individuals with skills that fit along a neat hierarchy.
But there is strength in community and in diversity. If you cultivate healthy relationships when times are good, you can trust most of them will not kick you when you're down. At the end of the day, that's all you really can trust. Everything in life is a crapshoot beyond the goodwill of your neighbors.
