Some days all of my open source effort feels like it was pointless.
Other days, I’m looking up documentation on how to do something with a database in Python, and I find blog posts and documentation pages that casually use or list my aiosqlite package alongside all of the other hallmark database libraries, and I’m staggered that something so small has become a piece of the fabric for our shared ecosystem.
Some days I hear messages and kind words from people who have found my projects and appreciate the effort. Those messages mean everything to me.
And then I see the download stats for aioitertools, quietly being used more than any other project I’ve built while receiving zero maintenance or attention from myself or seemingly anyone else.
I don’t even know how to describe the joy I’ve gotten from seeing my work be helpful to others, to know that other people are building *so many cool things* on top of the foundations I helped to create.
