so today's effort on Evocation is to move most of the code that writes an executable into a helper (we're calling it "enchant")
and then move the code that writes the hex dump of that executable into another helper ("inscribe")
deceptively fiddly, though it's not actually a lot of work. the hope is to turn it into reusable machinery that can compile things other than the compiler itself.
