Something I liked about #EMFCamp's toilets that I already miss: They weren't about gender!
They had a mixture of stalls (some with integrated handwash basins, some without) and urinals. If you are able to and want to use the urinal, you use the urinal, otherwise you use the stall. It really was that simple.
And I don't think that sort of thing is a big gender euphoria moment but then I go back to the Real World where there are Two Genders And Disabled and I start feeling rather uncomfortable again 😭😭.
And the gender system makes queues painful because some stalls get massive queues while other stalls are unused. So splitting toilets by gender is is incredibly inefficient too.
And if it's really that simple to Do Genderless Toilets at a pop-up camp.... why not do it elsewhere? There is an argument that it's not feasible to retrofit every building, and I can buy that, but at the very least why not make new buildings do genderless toilets? Yes, it will take a decent chunk of persuading to overcome societal inertia, but practically there is nothing stopping people from building genderless toilets, and it makes life so much easier for nonbinary folk like myself
