After we played, @jutekja shared this wonderful comment: Molly House is a non-capitalist board game. It does not stop you from optimizing your play, but it refuses to celebrate optimization. And it's very rare and special in that respect.
Many games with anticapitalist aesthetics struggle with that. A lot of the core systems that designers work with ultimately encourage players to seek growth, efficiency, and competition - regardless of the eco, anarchist, or communal setting and goals presented.
There is (I'm told) a developing field in game design to turn that around. I've seen a few games at the forefront of that movement, and I'm very much looking forward to seeing it develop.
