The honest truth is that companies will not magically become more ethical, competent, or user-aligned - the cynicism we hold will continue to be necessary for survival, and the young will need it too. But what's needed is the dialectical ability to hold the skepticism and wonder in our heads at the same time, because the wonder is necessary too, and the synthesis is what we have to role model for the kiddos. Even if it's hard, and we need practice to be good at it ourselves!
The magic of computers is that we're capable of doing better things than rent-seekers and authoritarians want. We can tell those guys to fuck off, and have our own fun.
