I've been hearing about how datacenters can cause consumer electricity bills to rise. For example, in Ohio bills have increased by about 50% since 2020 while the national average is about 25% (also bad) Ohio has by far the most datacenters of any state.
But the increases aren't just about inelastic supply and increased demand.
Datacenter companies tend to reserve more power than they use. Sometimes a lot more.
Now that's suspicious. That's weird.
