It seems that the intellectual tradition of lecturing people about what “freedom” means has left a lot of free software nerds with the sense that “this debate would be going better for me if this specific word meant something very different from what my interlocutor intends, so I will decide that it *does* mean what I want, and then insist on that” is a valid—and, indeed virtuous—debate strategy
