The experience of awe when contemplating the scale of the universe often creates the “small self” effect. A psychological state of feeling small, but exhilarated, that reminds us to think outside of ourselves. We feel more connected to our communities, more likely to engage in prosocial behaviors, and feel less burdened by our personal problems. It can be a helpful reset from stress to experience the cosmic perspective and connect with something larger than ourselves.
