ah, another 'fun' example: to this day, people repeat the claim about JS module systems that ESM can be statically analyzed but CommonJS cannot, and that's why ESM is better and we should all switch to it it.

that claim has never been even slightly true, and people believing it is a big part of why we're now stuck with two separate module systems needing to both be supported in perpetuity, with compatibility between them only appearing in the last year or two (despite ESM being introduced like a decade ago)

and if people checked things, then this never would have happened, because it's *really* easy to disprove
