There's apparently scammers going round pretending to be Mastodon admins, demanding people "verify their identity".

Do not click on their links, do not give them any info. It is a scam. Genuine Mastodon server admins never demand verification like this.

Here's a guide to how to recognise and avoid various kinds of scams on Mastodon and the wider Fediverse:

Screenshot of an illustration that is apparently being used by scammers to try to fool people into giving their personal details to crooks. The illustration itself says "identity verification required", features a cartoon Mastodon and has various corporate-looking text boxes full of generic phrases which all boil down to "give us your ID if you want to keep your account". These are lies, and I've overlaid the phrase "SCAM! DO NOT CLICK!" in bright red letters on top of the scam illustratoin.
