Something thats been really helpful for me lately, is an idea that Cal Newport has driven home in some of his writing; is that it's useful to think about your values first, and then evaluate how your technology choices are in service to those values.
No software choice(s) will be perfect, every bit of software will have a dependency with a moral quandary; but some will still serve your values better than others.
In my own life; this has quashed a certain amount of waffling and hand wringing, and bouncing back and forth.
