The way that people will retroactively label old internet social systems (like forums, comment boards, and even social networks like Twitter/Facebook before they adopted an algorithmic content creator approach) as "social media", even people sympathetic to those older ways of being online, is eerily similar to the way that any economic system that includes any kind of commerce gets retroactively labeled as capitalism.
