We've seen in the browser space how damaging it is having a single team pushing features without consulting other vendors. This is how masto operates and we can already see the effects. Most people don't even know there are other services. Other teams constantly have to adjust their software to suit masto or reverse engineer a feature so its compatible with masto.
This isn't sustainable. Decentralization requires plurality of implementations.
