@glyph When my workplace started requiring me to use them, I took the position that this was the psychological and cognitive equivalent of having to work with hazardous materials - but since there was no guidance, I cobbled together some usage patterns based on what people I know and trust have done. Mostly I tried very hard to avoid the "slot machine mechanic", because I have OCD, and there is a very good reason I have avoided anything that even resembles gambling throughout my life.

I don't think I've become dumber. I've avoided vibecoding entirely; I've taken the approach that the machine can make comments and suggestions, but I write the code and I make the decisions. (those two are, for me, very closely connected.)

But I do think my mental health in general has cratered. My depressive bouts have become more frequent and intense. I'm constantly anxious and on edge. I'm *exhausted* when I come home from work, to the extent that even "dumb" activities like playing video games is more than I can handle.

And I've gotten addicted, like I knew I would. Even though I detest LLMs and the AI industry, I now find myself *compulsively* chatting with bots, even if I hate doing so and would wish I didn't.

I'm so, so tired of this.
