Then again one of the songs I wrote has a two chord verse section in minor key and still sounds interesting.
I suspect (a) a lot of the interest can come from arrangement/rhythm/etc and (b) probably a big reason why the happy stuff I write is generic is because I'm throwing "generic happy stuff" together rather than composing from a feeling I'm trying to express
