I wonder what the effect size of "believing academic writing is just a mechanical paint by numbers factory process" -> "writing with AI" is. Academic writing is a genre and a literary form, and like all genres and literary forms there are idioms, expectations to play with and violate, a range of expressive devices you can draw on or discard. People who don't treat academic writing as a craft or an art write the worst papers.
